Antwerp
Model, war correspondent, photographer and surrealist: Lee Miller (1907-1977) is it all. One of the few known female photographers of the first half of the 20th century, she made an important contribution to photography. Lee Miller in Print is Lee Miller's first solo exhibition in Belgium, on view at the Fotomuseum in Antwerp through Aug. 6, 2025.
In the 1930s, Lee Miller is part of the surrealist circles in Paris. She took commercial photographs in her studio for fashion magazines. Sometimes she stood in front of the lens. During and after World War II, she records important moments as a photographer and war reporter. Quite remarkable for a woman: this kind of work was usually reserved for male photographers.
Lee Miller's diverse, layered and often personal body of work appears in well-known magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Life Magazine and avant-garde artist magazines. Her photographs also appear in Allied publications such as The War Illustrated and Cadran.
